 게임 설명

스틱을 전혀 쓰지 않고 버튼을 3개 가지고 하는 하이퍼 올림픽 형태의 게임으로 주인공들이 모두 초인이며 종목들도 보통 인간

으로서는 도저히 할 수 없는 종목이다. 전함포를 요격한다거나 미사일을 던지거나 열차를 받아서 다시 튕겨내기, 오직 도약만으로

고층건물 옥상까지 올라가기 등의 제정신이 아닌 종목이다. 종목에 따라서 어떤 것은 연타가, 어떤 것은 타이밍이 중요하다.

 

이 게임은 비록 오락실에서 크게 성공하지 못했지만, 이 게임의 속편인 마하 브레이커즈는 상당한 성공을 거뒀다.

물론 그렇다고 해서 이 게임이 못 만든 게임은 아니다.

현재도 명작이라고 평가하는 팬들이 상당수가 있을 정도로 완성도는 훌륭하다.

다른 캐릭터들은 묻혔지만, 이 게임의 1P 캐릭터이자 홍일점인 샤론만은 현재도 팬아트가 근근히 남아있을 정도로 인기가 있다.

 

참고로 인터셉터에서 함포를 정면으로 맞을 때와 미사일 토스에서 중간 버튼을 누른 뒤 떼지 않아서 미사일을 땅바닥으로 던졌을

때엔 폭발의 영향으로 상의가 찢어진다.

여성인 샤론도 예외는 없기 때문에 당시 일부러 함포에 맞거나 미사일을 땅바닥에 내동댕이 치는 어린이들이 의외로 많았다.

캐릭터

 

샤론 레아르 (シャロン・レアール, Sharon L'Halles) - 1P

프랑스 대표. 트윈 테일 미소녀. 속편인 마하 브레이커즈에서도 일종의 히든 보스 캐릭터로서 등장.

모든 종목을 클리어시 전 대회 우승자라는 타이틀을 들고 나와 첫번째 종목인 달리기를 종합 포인트 1위의 캐릭터와 1:1로 붙는

엑시비션 매치를 갖는다. 여기에서 이기면 샤론에게 꽃다발을 받을 수 있다.

 

해리 포핀 (ハリー・ポフィン, Harry Boffin) - 2P

미국 대표. 금발머리에 선글라스를 낀 청년.

 

나카무라 마사에몬 (ナカムラ・マサエモン, Masaemon Nakamura) - 3P

일본 대표. 사무라이를 모티브로 한 청년.

 

봉고 템보 (ボンゴ・テンボ, Bongo Tembo) - 4P

케냐 대표. 근육질의 거인.

 

음성 관련으로는 일본 출신의 마사에몬만이 일본어를 사용하고 나머지 캐릭터는 영어를 사용하는 것이 특징.

이 요소는 마하 브레이커즈에서도 기판을 가리지만 똑같이 적용된다.

(기본은 영어이나 일본판 기판일 경우 한정으로 여성 아나운서와 마코토는 일본어로 말한다.)

An athletics game featuring 8 tournaments :

Interceptor

A real life missile defense style-contest as missiles are being launched from a ship, and you must use your

mystical powers to stop the oncoming missiles.

The outside buttons (1 & 3) make you step to the left or right, and the middle button is fire. Failure to hit the

missile results in you being blown up. If you select Sharon from France, most of her clothes would disappear

except for the bottom part of her suit.

Niagara Jumps

The final competition in the tournament.

It is also considered to be the most difficult competition in the game.

Very similar to the Triple Jump competition in the Olympics.

The object is this contest is to make it across the falls. Alternately press buttons 1 and 3 to build up speed,

then press button 2 three times. If you don't time yourself properly, you will sink and drown and you will go

down the steep falls.

Nonstop Rock Chop

You must smash as many rocks as you can before time runs out.

Rapidly press buttons 1 and 3 alternately until the gauge is full, then press button 2 to smash the rock.

Numan Sniper

In this contest, monsters will jump out of the sea from three different locations. Your object, destroy them.

Press buttons 1, 2 or 3 varying by their location to shoot.

Scud Toss

Just as in the Javelin competition in the Olympics.

Played on a "Track and Field"-like field with an only exception -- a missile.

Rapidly and continuously press the two run buttons and then push and hold the middle button to set the

angle of which you would throw the missile. Again, like Interceptor, if you select Sharon -- then again if she is

faulted, she will be missing most of her clothes.

Tower Topper

Here you are expected to climb up to the building rooftop with the fastest time possible.

Press button 2 repeatedly to scale the side of a building.

If you press it too early -- you won't move, but if you press it too late -- you will fall off.

Turbo Dash

Much like the 100m Dash in the Olympics -- only the core elements have slightly changed.

You are racing against a drag racer and another player.

Press the two outside buttons (1 & 3) in alternate fashion until your RSI (or 'special speed') sets in.

VS. Express

Very similar to a familiar scene in the Superman comic books.

You must stop the oncoming train using your magical powers and send it in the opposite direction backwards.

Press button 2 to stop the train, then hammer the outside buttons to build up power before bunging it back

down the track. If you don't time this right -- the train will run you over.
